The latest entrant in our stock is this wonderful Antique French 19th Century Carved Wood & Gesso Trumeau Mirror. This beautiful and ornate mirror which showcases all of its French glory still retains its original distressed paint & gilt mercury mirror. Its provenance places it as a high-value piece. It was acquired from a 17th Century Normandy Chateau.
Trumeau mirrors are a type of wall mirror that is set in tall wooden frames. These often display a large section of ornate carved decoration at the top. The original Trumeau mirrors that were first made in France were set into boiserie or wooden panelling and made a fancy wall accessory during the 17th and 18th centuries.
