More about Damian Cleall
Damian writes
. "I spent a great many
of my early years as a young boy helping my mother Christine
in her antique shop in Brewers Lane, Richmond, Surrey
this is where I learnt the art of buying and selling antiques. After
attending Drama school I applied for a job as porter at
Spinks St James and worked my way up to being a fine art
assistant and bullion dealer. After leaving Spinks I managed
two shops in the Kings Road, Chelsea. My next step was
helping my mother drive her American Clients around the
country as she was now an Antique Courier after selling
her shop in Richmond. She was able to show me a great
many hidden sources to buy from.
Following on from this I opened two antique shops in the
London area the first in Twickenham and then later in
Sheen Lane, Sheen, nr Richmond. I then met my wonderful
wife Sally and we moved from Chiswick where we lived after
we married down to Sussex.
We purchased a very old house in Amberley, Sussex and
then looked for a shop in Sussex. We found a small shop
in Petworth which we opened 5 years ago - my wife was
now expecting our first child 'Amberley' and Jade our
2 year old quickly followed.
The shop in Petworth was too small so we moved to the
High Street, Petworth to a larger shop which was very
successful selling to the Trade and Private Clients, decorators
and overseas buyers. After moving home to Lavant, Chichester
in 2006 a fantastic opportunity arrived a shop in High
Street, Arundel. "What a great spot " I thought
and quickly moved in. So far we have had many complimentary
comments "A breath of fresh air " one said,
"Very unusual and reasonably priced antiques"
said another. An Aladdin's cave was also said... perhaps
you would like to visit our Aladdin's cave".
